Drop in Cigarette Sales

Dear Editor,
Drop in Cigarette Sales
The vast majority of smokers both in South Africa and globally would like to stop smoking but are trapped by their addiction. The ban on cigarette sales during the lockdown provided them with an opportunity to stop. Many did.
The 13.1% decline in cigarette sales reported by Spar was most probably due to fewer people smoking and not because smokers were buying cigarettes illegally as reported in Business Tech (Business Tech - 25 May).
For help in stopping smoking, people can call the Quit-line on 011 720 3145 or send a WhatsApp message on 072 766 4812 and we will call them back.
Yours Faithfully,

National Council Against Smoking
